Our trip report

Our trip report is now available in three forms: this web site (an early version), downloadable PDF files, or printed.

See the links to the right (or below, if your browser doesn't support CSS positioning properly) for the web version of various stages of the trip, complete with colour photos.

You can download the GUFF Trip Report as a five megabyte PDF file with many colour photos. The colour cover is an additional half megabyte PDF, provided as a separate file. If you download, please make a contribution towards GUFF (US$5 minimum requested; any amount welcome.) See the donations page for the many ways you can donate.

The printed version of the GUFF Trip Report is also available. Please contact the current GUFF administrators to arrange for a copy to be mailed, or buy one from Janice Murray or Joyce Scrivner at conventions in the USA. It is a 54 page A4 report, with a colour cover. The interior photos and drawings, unlike the PDF, are not in colour. US$10, A$15, or UK£5.

On this page we'll list where chapters of the report will be published, mainly in British fanzines.

Useful background information

Jean's comments: Before setting out, I did some research on the Internet, mainly by joining the rec.travel.europe newsgroup and following up leads from there. This exercise was a bit annoying because the volume of non-UK posts on the newsgroup vastly exceeded the posts related to the UK, but I persisted and gleaned some valuable information.

One of the main topics of interest to us was telecommunications: what was available for Eric's mobile phone, which would work in the UK (mine, being CDMA, won't work there); and what choices I had for phone cards to use either in public phones or at friends' houses, so I could call my mother. Other topics were rail travel, London travelcards, and rental cars.

Some of the most informative leads were Martin Rich's series of FAQs, which also included lots of useful links to other sites. See Links page for those and others.
