Whitsunday Churches and Religious Meetings

I was asked about churches in the Whitsundays by some travellers. Don't know of any in Airlie Beach. The Rotary Club local phone guide doesn't have a section for churches. Closest I've heard are a Baptist Church and St Martins Church at St Martins Drive in Cannonvale. There is a Christian Outreach Centre on the Bruce Highway at Proserpine, and I believe they hold services at 9:30 a.m. and also at PCYC in Airlie Beach at 6:30 p.m. There is a phone listing for a Church of Christ in Eckers Road, Proserpine. There is a Catholic Church presbytery in Proserpine. There is also an Anglican Church listed in Proserpine. Assemblies of God Church have been using a function room at Shingley Beach Resort 10 a.m. second Sunday of month, and a mission service on the last Sunday of month.

Anglican parish has Sunday services at St Pauls, Proserpine at 7:45 a.m. and at St Martins, Cannonvale at 9:45 a.m. Phone number was listed as 4945 1239 in December 2005.

I have heard that ministers from eight churches meet monthly, but have no details of locations. The churches mentioned were Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Christian Outreach, Assemblies of God, Seventh Day Adventist, Lutheran, Uniting.

Christian Outreach Centre Proserpine are on the Bruce Highway, 100 metres south of the Information Centre. Services at 9:30 a.m. I believe they also have a service at 6:30 p.m. at Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) on Shute Harbour Road. This is Jubilee Pocket area, less than a kilometre past Airlie, as you head for Shute Harbour.

St Martin's Church in Cannonvale was opened in September 2002. It is a joint venture between the Lutherean Church (who had the land) and the Catholic Church (who had funds for building). Presiding priests Fr Michael Taylor and Paster Brett Kennett. May also hold other denomination services, for example Uniting Church and Anglican. Mass 6:30 p.m. Sunday, I believe.

St James Proserpine, at the corner of Main Street and Herbert Street, is also used by Anglican and Uniting churces, amongst others I believe. Uniting Church services 7:30 a.m. at St Martins Cannonvale, 9:30 a.m. at St James, Proserpine.

There is also a Jehovah's Witnesses group with a Kingdom Hall being worked on near Proserpine.

I think I should probably turn that into a table.
